Our special visitor
Today Holly (Robinson) came to visit us. She was the New Zealand flag bearer at the recent Rio Paralympics games. She competed in the javelin and won a silver medal! She brought it along for us to look at. She also brought her mascot - Tom. Did you know that if you bought a version of Tom in the shops, his head piece would be green (to represent the rainforests). Holly's was a special version. It was silver, because she was given it when she won a silver medal. If you won bronze, it would be bronze. And gold, would be gold!
Thank you Holly for answering all our questions. You were very inspirational!

Lucy's Special Project
Lucy has been working with Miss Toddun to create a wonderful artwork, that shows all the things that are special to her. Lucy shared it with us all and talked about what she had included on it and why. Thanks Lucy - it was awesome!

Principal's Writing Award
Mr Galloway read all of our fractured fairytales over the holidays. He then chose the top boy and girl from our class, based on the stories that he enjoyed the most. Aidan and Alex were our successful winners.
Cricket Coaching
This week we have been having some cricket coaching through Sport Otago. We have learnt some bowling and batting skills.
Parts of a plant
Today we talked about the different parts that a plant has, and that each of these parts has a specific function. We learnt that one of the jobs of the stem is to deliver water and nutrients around the plant. We tested this. We put a flower in dye. Look what happened!

Colourful Toucans
We drew some toucans and created a colourful background. We based these on Brazilian Art that we had viewed when we looked at Rio and the Olympics. Come on in and see the others that are up around our room.

Look at how much our plants have grown. Our next step is to plant our seedlings into a much larger pot. Stay tuned to see how they go!

The fairest of them all
Today we had a group from the New Zealand Playhouse come to school to present a performance based on fairytales. It was called 'The Fairest Of Them All'. As well as being fun and entertaining, it taught us really important message about being safe on the internet. We enjoyed watching the performance.
